What is Special Educational Consultancy?

Special education is a field of expertise that encompasses individualised educational processes tailored to the needs of children who exhibit differences in learning, development and behaviour. Every child has a unique learning style, interests, intellectual ability and social skills; standard education programmes may not always be sufficient. For this reason, special education aims to support a child’s strengths whilst strengthening areas for development and holistically developing their academic, social, emotional and behavioural skills.

At ÇADEM Psychology, our priorities in the special education process include the child’s individual assessment, personalised education plans and coordinated work with the family. In this way, every child can learn at their own pace and maximise their potential.

In What Situations

Should One Seek Special Educational Counseling?

Children with developmental and neurological differences—such as genetic or neurological conditions including autism spectrum disorders, Asperger’s, Rett syndrome, Fragile X syndrome or Williams syndrome—may experience a direct impact on their academic and social development; in such cases, special educational support is of the utmost importance. Similarly, children with cognitive support needs, such as intellectual disability, mental impairment, developmental delay or pervasive developmental disorders, should be supported with educational plans tailored to their cognitive abilities.

Special education also offers an effective solution for conditions such as learning difficulties, specific learning difficulties (difficulties with reading, writing or maths), selective mutism, academic underachievement or exam anxiety, helping to improve the child’s academic performance and boost their self-confidence. Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anger management issues, aggression, tics or social adjustment problems may also face difficulties in their daily lives and educational processes; in such cases, special education can support behaviour and attention management.

Sensory and social difficulties are also areas where special education should be sought. Conditions such as hypersensitivity to auditory or visual stimuli, social anxiety, difficulties in peer relationships, an inability to cope with family conflicts, and social isolation can affect a child’s academic and social development and require professional support. Situations requiring early intervention should not be overlooked; developmental delays observed in infancy and the pre-school years can be addressed rapidly through early intervention programmes and special education.

In addition, if a child requires support in more than one area—for example, when multiple issues such as learning difficulties and social anxiety occur together—the special educational process should be conducted using a holistic and multidisciplinary approach. In this way, all areas of the child’s development are supported simultaneously, and their potential is maximised.
