Book Recommendation for Children: Kumkurdu

Book Recommendation for Children: Kumkurdu

As Çadem Academy, in this blog series we will present children’s book recommendations and reviews for you. Helping children develop a love of reading or finding books that will attract their interest can sometimes become a difficult issue for families. I will also talk about books I have read and think might interest you. Today, the first book I would like to share is Kumkurdu.

The book consists of three volumes. Although it is aimed at primary school-aged children, it is also a book that adults can enjoy reading. In fact, we can say that its messages may appeal even more to adults. The main character of the book, Zackarina, is an only child living with her parents. Zackarina befriends the Sand Wolf. The story includes small adventures in which adults’ lives are questioned. Among these lovely adventures, my favorite is “Zackarina and the Dark.”

In this story, Zackarina, who is afraid of the dark and wants to go home, is listened to with surprise by her friend Sand Wolf. Zackarina claims that scary monsters appear in the dark. However, the Sand Wolf says that in the dark people cannot see anything, so they tend to make things up instead. Zackarina is eventually convinced that the dark is actually a good place for imagination. On her way home that day, she looks at the dark from a different perspective. Even though the darkness itself does not change, she describes it as becoming soft like velvet.

This recommendation is for those who, like Zackarina, can look at their fears/problems from a different perspective. Who knows, maybe your problems will not completely disappear, but they may become as soft as velvet for you as well.
