Introversion and Social Anxieties

In psychology, if aggression and defiance represent one side of the coin, withdrawal and shyness represent the other. In other words, shyness is considered just as much of a problem as aggression. However, in most families, shyness is interpreted as politeness and docility, and withdrawal is praised with remarks such as, "My child is very well-behaved, never misbehaves, and never disobeys me." Children whose emotions and justified reactions are suppressed through punishment, and whose mistakes are met with condemnation and blame, lose their self-confidence over time. To avoid making mistakes, they choose to remain silent and withdraw into themselves.

Playing with Matches and Fire

Playing with matches and lighters, or using them to burn paper, is a common and serious occurrence among young children that sometimes causes fires. Children with intellectual disabilities or those who struggle to express their emotions and desires cannot foresee the dangerous consequences of playing with fire.

On the other hand, unhappy children who harbor underlying feelings of resentment and revenge toward their parents may unconsciously manifest their internal aggression by setting fires.
