Training in Stress Management and Effective Communication Skills in Aviation
Stress is an integral part of our lives. Often, whilst trying to cope with stress, we deplete our mental and physical resources because, if stress persists for a long time and is not managed effectively, it can lead to a wide range of consequences, from simple lapses in concentration to serious health issues. However, it is known that a certain amount of stress—which varies from person to person—can aid physical and mental changes, growth and maturation. The critical difference between a situation that could be considered ‘positive stress’—such as a promotion—and one that could be considered ‘negative stress’—such as failing an exam—lies in how the individual perceives the stress-related event and how they cope with it. Learning to manage stress—or, in other words, learning to keep stress at a positive level—will be the greatest investment you can make in yourself for your professional life, your education, your relationships, and indeed every environment in which you find yourself.
Various researchers have demonstrated that stressful situations are often caused by interpersonal relationship issues; in this regard, the acquisition of effective communication skills emerges as an effective solution. In particular, the stress created by isolated environments where teams work together has a significant impact on communication. Aviation Psychology places particular emphasis on the importance of teamwork and, in line with today’s evolving technology, highlights that the most effective way to minimise error rates is through reducing stress by enhancing communication skills.
ÇADEM Psychology continues to provide Aviation Psychology Services through training programmes on ‘coping with stress’ and ‘effective communication skills’ – one of the mechanisms for managing stress – to help you understand the nature of stress and manage it more effectively.
