Art Psychotherapy is a journey where you do not have to express yourself through words, but rather tell your story through colours, textures, music,

and touch.

Through the presence of art and what it awakens within you, it allows you to express yourself in whatever way you choose, bringing to light those ‘thoughts you’ve set aside’ and ‘emotions you’ve put on hold’.

Through the various art methods and materials used—which form the cornerstone of art therapy—and the effects they have on you, you can express yourself artistically by tapping into the innate power of artistic expression that exists within every human being. The advantage of this is that whatever thoughts or emotions you struggle to put into words, have put on hold, or suppressed, art’s creative power helps you to express them—whether by softening them or through extremely bold strokes.

Every piece of work you create through art in the workshops can be a reflection of your thoughts,feelings, emotions, expectations, wishes and desires. Whatever it is that you wish to express in response to the given theme—whatever exists in the abstract (a thought, a feeling,an expectation)—is made tangible through art, helping you to become aware of it.

Through the work undertaken during art therapy, by reducing the voice of your own inner resistance that hinders your expression, you can begin to discover yourself, and as a result of these discoveries, your journey towards a new ‘you’ may begin.

When you feel the need to unburden yourself of the weight of your experiences over time and wish to consult a professional, you may find it difficult to express yourself in words. Through the themes and art materials used in Art Psychotherapy, as you express yourself through art in whatever way feels natural to you, the creative power of art can make the process more enjoyable by increasing your motivation for psychotherapy.

Throughout the process of Art Psychotherapy, as your ability to express yourself develops, your awareness of the fears, anxieties, desires, expectations and recurring events that cause you stress—which already exist but which you struggle to articulate—will grow. This helps to bring to the surface the coping strength that actually lies within you regarding these issues. As you become better able to express yourself, you will feel more at ease both mentally and physically, so your perspective on events and your approach to them will be quite different from before.
